For the first time, the “Key Technology Research for New Insulator Strings of UHV AC Lines” project has optimized the string type and fitting configuration, the tower discharge characteristics test, and the insulator string for Y-strings, inverted V-strings, and porcelain-composite insulator combinations of UHV AC lines. Three types of electric field distribution and corona voltage characteristics were obtained through research on pollution, ice flashover characteristics, and insulator string mechanical properties. The long-wavefront operating shocks of 1000μs and 2500μs in Y-series and inverted-V tower head gaps were obtained. The research results of the project provide important technical support for the string structure and pole tower design of UHV AC lines in China. Among them, the UHV AC new Y-type string related results have been applied to the design of the Y-shaped string tower in the UHV AC project in Huainan-Shanghai, China, which has produced good economic and social benefits.
