In the article, the researchers stated that they developed a colorimetric detection method that uses gold nanoparticles to detect whether a product is contaminated with melamine. This method has a detection limit of 1.0 ppm for liquid milk. The detection limit for infant formula milk powder was 4.2 ppm. After using UV-visible spectrophotometry, the sensitivity was improved, the detection limit of liquid milk was 0.15 ppm, and the detection limit of infant formula milk powder was 2.5 ppm. This test can be completed in 30 minutes and does not require pretreatment. Therefore, the researchers said that this method is suitable for on-site inspection of dairy products that contain melamine.

This new test method has the advantages of faster and lower cost compared with the existing methods, and does not require advanced together or solid phase inspection, but its sensitivity is relatively low compared to other test methods. . Although its sensitivity is low, the researchers say that the sensitivity of this test method is sufficient for the regulatory authorities to monitor the level of melamine in dairy products.
