Weak weak independent innovation ability is a prominent problem in the development of China's spare parts industry
Statistics show that with the rapid growth of vehicle production, China's auto parts industry has also achieved a spurt growth in the past 10 years. The output value of the auto parts industry has grown from 68.86 billion yuan in 2000 to over trillion yuan in 2009. . Experts estimate that the output value of China's auto parts industry will reach 1.4 trillion yuan in 2010, ranking the top five in the world auto parts industry structure. In addition, according to a survey conducted by the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s auto parts industry’s share of the auto industry has also risen from about 17% to nearly 40% in the last decade.
However, at present, a prominent problem faced by the development of China's spare parts industry is the weak capability of autonomous parts and components companies in independent innovation. Industry insiders believe that China’s auto parts industry has been developed on the basis of commercial vehicle parts. Except for individual companies that have developed during the expansion of the passenger car parts market, most of the company’s parts and components investment has failed to make full use of it. Performance, some even lost the opportunity for technological upgrading.
Xu Jianyi, general manager of FAW Group, stated that at present, independent component companies have formed certain supporting scales on traditional, low-value-added components, such as wheels, glass, tires, mechanical steering/brakes, and seats. However, high-tech and high-value-added components, especially electronic components such as air conditioners, electric steering, electronic brakes, suspension systems, and engine control, are basically controlled by wholly foreign-owned enterprises or joint ventures.
Li Weidou, general manager of FAW Group Import and Export Corporation, believes that many companies lack an independent component R&D system and rely mainly on OEMs for their technology sources and lack the ability to compete with foreign companies.
The Five Key Constraints the Development of China's Auto Parts Independent Innovation System
Industry analysts believe that the fundamental cause of the imperfect auto-innovation system in China's auto parts industry is mainly concentrated in five areas:
First, in terms of funds, the most basic condition for independent innovation of enterprises is the obvious lack of investment. According to the actual survey conducted by the Jilin Provincial Federation of Industry and Commerce on 21 auto supporting enterprises in the province, the R&D expenses of 21 enterprises in 2008 were 141 million yuan, accounting for 1.16% of sales revenue. The total amount of R&D investment is seriously insufficient, and the proportion is lower than the average level of international peers.
Second, in terms of the supporting R&D institutions of the supporting companies, they exhibited weaknesses with few numbers and low levels. Most companies have a small number of R&D institutions and a low level of ownership, which has become a “short board†in the auto-innovation system of auto supporting companies. Many small and medium-sized enterprises, especially small-scale ones below the scale, have no R&D facilities and locations, and cannot upgrade product technology levels according to market demand.
Third, in terms of the linkage of R&D between complete vehicles and supporting enterprises, the poor linkage mechanism is a major problem. Li Zhenyu, general manager of FAW Foaleo Compressor (Changchun) Co., Ltd., said that at present, there is a certain problem of unclear linking mechanism between parts and components companies and vehicle companies, and the main cause of this problem is the whole There is a large selection of spare parts for car companies, and they are reluctant to purchase products from a certain parts and components company. This will increase risks and increase costs. In addition, some primary and secondary component suppliers and many component and small-sized enterprises also have the problem of lack of communication mechanism, which affects the stability of their supply chains.
