Analysis of Domestic Car Market Sales in December 2017: SAIC-GM

In December 2017, domestic sales of 1,206,652 cars decreased by 3.4% year-on-year, and the decline narrowed. For the whole year of 2017, the cumulative sales volume was 11,879,598 units, a year-on-year decrease of 1.9%.

According to data compiled by Gasgoo Automotive Research Institute, domestic sales of passenger cars in December were 1,206,652, a year-on-year decrease of 3.4%. Affected by the increase in the share of SUVs, the sales volume of passenger cars in the passenger vehicle market declined slightly from 48.2% in the previous month to 46.4%.

The self-owned brand car has a good year-end rally

According to the distribution department, the German and US-based brand cars have seen a modest year-on-year growth this year, while the self-owned brand cars have seen a year-on-year increase. Among them, the sales volume of self-owned brand cars reached 282,440 units, an increase of 11.58% year-on-year, and the sales volume closely followed the German brand cars. The Ashkenazi branded car sold 309,843 cars, which accounted for a quarter of the car market, an increase of 0.57% year-on-year. Japanese brand cars sold 226,501 vehicles this month, a year-on-year decrease of 7.57%, and the decline has increased.

The US Department of branded car sales reached 225,857 units, which was a year-on-year increase of 1.62%. Although the number of Japanese brand cars was less than a thousand, the increase has narrowed. The Korean brand sold 121,571 units this month, which represented a year-on-year increase in the year-on-year decline. The chain continued to grow from the previous month, and the entry price of small cars introduced by Hyundai Motor and Kia further declined, indicating that Korean brands will regain some market share with their own brands. The sales of French cars sold 30,274 vehicles this month, a year-on-year decrease of 45.78%, and the decline further expanded.

A-class cars are larger

In terms of market segments, the A-class sedan market sold 736,293 units in December, which accounted for 61.0% of the sedan's share. This month, it fell by nearly 30,000 units, still down 7.99% year-on-year. The growth of A00-class cars has increased, with 48,391 units sold this month, an increase of 105.05% year-on-year. The A0 sedan sold 168,689 vehicles this month, which was down by 4.53% year-on-year, dropping from the previous quarter; the B-class sedan sales were 204,498 units this month, and the year-on-year decrease narrowed to 0.73%; the C-class vehicle sales this month were 48,781 units, narrowing year-on-year growth. To 15.42%.

North and South Volkswagen give way to SAIC-GM

In December 2017, the top ten cars sold by the company were SAIC GM, SAIC Volkswagen, FAW-Volkswagen, Dongfeng Nissan, Beijing Hyundai, Changan Ford, Geely Automobile, Dongfeng Yueda Kia, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Guangzhou Automobile Honda. SAIC General Motors won the top spot this month, and North and South China Volkswagen gave way, achieving sales of 161,525 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%. FAW Volkswagen's ranking dropped to third, which was a significant decrease from the previous quarter, but rose 8.1% year-on-year. Sales volume of 119,873 units and SAIC's Volkswagen sedan saw an increase. The sales volume was 141,187 units, down 11.0% year-on-year.

Six of the top ten car companies in China had a year-on-year drop this month, and Dongfeng Nissan also saw a drop in sales, with sales of 77,050 vehicles ranking fourth, but there was a clear gap between the top three cars. The decline in Korean brands was still relatively large. Beijing Hyundai ranked fifth, with sales of 74,735 units this month, down 23.8% year-on-year; Dongfeng Yueda Kia sedan sales were 46,836 units, down 22.4% year-on-year. Changan Ford Motor Co., Ltd. sold 64,332 units this month, one-to-sixth higher than last year, and the year-on-year decline was expanded to -14.4%. Geely Automobile sold 59,933 vehicles this month, a year-on-year drop, with a decrease of -11.0%. SAIC-GM-Wuling entered the list and sold 41268 vehicles, an increase of 115.9% year-on-year. Guangzhou Automobile Honda is still the 10th, with 37,786 units sold this month, down 11.0% year-on-year.

Po Chun 310 catches up with the top three

From the perspective of vehicle models, the top ten rankings for the sales of the sedan market in December were: Lam Yip, Sylphy, New Yinglang, Po Chun 310, Forex, Sagitar, Polaris, Emgrand EC7, Kowalz and Leading. This month's lap is still in the championship position, but the risk is exceeded. Sylphy ranked second with sales of 44,141 units, only a thousand units behind Langyi, which was a year-on-year increase of 0.71%. The brand new Yinglang ranked third, this month sales of 40939 vehicles, an increase of 29.04%, or gains. The Po Chun 310 represented the sprint list of its own-brand sedan, ranking fourth with a sales volume of 35048, an increase of 95.84% year-on-year. In December, another Evergreen Di Hao EC7 in its own-brand sedan was upgraded. The sales volume was 22090 units this month, but it was down 1.89% year-on-year and rose to the eighth place.
