China's imports of sewing machinery in the first half of 2011

According to statistics from the Customs, in the first half of 2011, China’s total imports of sewing machinery products were approximately US$200 million, an increase of 22.02% year-on-year. Among them, the cumulative total imports of 40,000 units, the import amount of 100 million US dollars, an increase of 9.76% and 7.66% year on year; parts import amount of 100 million US dollars, an increase of 41.52%.

From the perspective of imported products, due to the cultivation and promotion of the home-machine market over the years, the domestic consumer market for domestic sewing machines gradually improved in 2011, and home-use machine imports began to exhibit high-speed growth of several tens of times due to the lower base. In the first half of 2011, the import of industrial sewing machines showed a declining trend. This was mainly due to the gradual enhancement of the industrialization capability of domestic brands and the acceleration of the transfer of foreign brand production capacity to China. However, the import volume of industrial sewing machines decreased, indicating that the grades and added value of imported products are gradually increasing.

In terms of the import market, China’s imports from Japan, China Taiwan, and Germany have both increased by more than double digits, especially in Germany, where the number of sewing machines imported from China increased by 22.57% year-on-year, and the amount of imports increased by 73.23%. Japan is still China's largest importer of sewing machinery products, and its import amount accounts for more than 60% of the total imports of sewing machinery products in China.
