For card friends who often run southwest or long downhill sections, there is a higher requirement for auxiliary braking of vehicles. The most common auxiliary brakes are nothing but in-cylinder and exhaust brakes, and the hydraulic retarder is not high in terms of cost due to various factors. So, how does exhaust brake with the highest loading amount work?
â— Exhaust brake principle structure
As the name suggests, exhaust brake and exhaust volume are inextricably linked. Under normal circumstances, the exhaust brake butterfly valve is installed on the exhaust manifold of the engine. By closing the exhaust passage of the engine, when the engine piston is in the exhaust stroke, the reverse pressure of the gas reduces the operating speed of the engine. Generate braking effect, so as to achieve the purpose of controlling the speed of the vehicle.
The structure of the exhaust brake butterfly valve is shown in the figure. Connect the vent valve (Fig. 4) to the front of the exhaust pipe. The solenoid valve can control the high pressure air entering the cylinder (Fig. 2) through the vent connector (Fig. 5). Control the opening and closing of the valve plate (shown in Fig. 3) so that the exhaust brake is on or off. As shown in the above figure, when the exhaust butterfly valve is in the working state, when the valve plate is open, the exhaust gas will be unobstructed without braking effect.
Exhaust brake switch handle is generally located on the left side of the steering wheel, the models are different here will not repeat them. Exhaust braking is generally divided into several gears, each gear corresponding to different braking power. When the driver turns on the exhaust brake, the solenoid valve vent opens the passage for the air and the compressed air enters the exhaust gas cylinder. The piston of the exhaust gas cylinder is moved by the pressure of the compressed air to drive the push rod, the push rod drives the exhaust brake butterfly valve, and the butterfly valve rotates the exhaust pipe to a corresponding angle.
When the exhaust valve plate rotates to a certain angle, the air in the exhaust pipe will be compressed due to the impact of the disc resistance, and the top of the piston will be subjected to the pressure of the compressed air to prevent the engine from operating to generate a braking effect, thereby reducing the speed. The purpose of controlling the speed.
â— Does exhaust brake damage the engine?
I have heard many cardmates say that the exhaust brake is equivalent to blocking the exhaust pipe of the engine. However, the lack of the engine is still working, and it will definitely have a certain impact on the life of the engine.
According to cardmates, for example, it is equivalent to slamming on the brakes while vigorously increasing the throttle, which will certainly affect the engine.
However, the exhaust brake and the fuel supply device of the fuel injection pump normally have a linkage mechanism. Especially with the current EFI engine, when the foot starts to close the throttle, the engine will automatically reduce the oil supply. In simple terms, when the exhaust brake is turned on, the engine will not continue to be heavily oiled. Naturally, it is unlikely that everyone will worry that the engine will not affect the service life due to the use of exhaust brakes.
â— Postscript:
With the development of society, safety and efficiency have become the goal of the logistics industry. High-performance engine-assisted braking systems naturally become the key to safety improvement. In addition to our common exhaust brakes, the engine cylinder braking is also One of the current development trends is whether or not auxiliary braking is advanced or not.
