Ten areas of chemical engineering received major state funding

To this end, the Ministry of Chemistry of the National Fundamental Committee has identified ten areas for major funding in 2011 in response to the four major frontiers of chemical engineering research.
Sun Hongwei said: “These four directions represent the mainstream of chemical engineering research and are related to the long-term development of the chemical industry.” The four frontiers of chemical engineering research include: First, the observation and simulation of multi-scale issues, changing the traditional research methods And thinking, from the exploration of process conditions to the resolution of key scientific issues; the second is the extension of research from conventional systems to unconventional and extreme processes. The traditional “three pass and one counter” theory, thermodynamic theory, and models have failed to resolve unconventional extremes. The law of material transformation under the conditions; the third is the expansion from chemical processing engineering to chemical product engineering; the fourth is the shift from additional value-added improvement research to exploratory research and development of new concepts and systems.
Focusing on these four major frontiers, the China State Foundation has identified the top ten funding areas for 2011 key projects: the key scientific issues in bio-chemicals, the chemical engineering foundation for food or medicine, the efficient and clean use of fossil energy, and the chemical engineering for new energy development. Foundation, key scientific issues of chemical product engineering, scientific design of new chemical material design and performance control, efficient use of resources and optimization of complex chemical systems, scientific basis of transfer process under extreme conditions, typical chemical reactions and reactor amplification science and engineering Foundation, scientific basis of chemical environment and safety, no phase change, high purity separation, and key scientific issues.
According to Sun Hongwei's introduction, the influence of China in the international academic community is gradually expanding, and the basic research work has repeatedly achieved breakthroughs. Since 2000, among the achievements in the chemical engineering subsidized by the National Science Foundation, 3 have won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 26 won the second prize of the National Technological Invention, and 28 have won the second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
At the same time, there are still some problems that need to be solved in chemical research. For example, basic research is weak, and high-level research results are few; independent innovation capability based on new concepts and new systems is poor; research on key practical technologies and scientific issues of sustainable development is still lacking; and the concept of accurate design, amplification, and regulation for industrialization is lacking; The capacity of the method is relatively weak; compared with the international level, China has more introduction and digestion and less independent innovation technology.
