The automobile production in Shandong, which has experienced rapid growth for many years, is undergoing significant differentiation. The reporter learned from the Shandong Provincial Economic and Information Technology Commission that in the first quarter of this year, the province produced a total of 460,800 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 2.4%. Among them, heavy-duty trucks fell by 37.3% year-on-year; medium-sized and mini-vans both produced and sold, and output increased by more than 25% year-on-year; low-speed electric vehicles maintained a strong growth of 98.6% year-on-year.
Among the various models, heavy-duty trucks, mainly construction and transportation markets, were affected by factors such as weakened investment, real estate regulation and economic slowdown, and rising fuel prices. The market remained sluggish. In the first quarter of this year, heavy-duty trucks dropped significantly, which was a decrease of 37.3% year-on-year. As a representative enterprise of heavy truck production in the province, China disclosed in a quarterly report that it is expected that the net profit of the company in the mid-2012 will be reduced by 50% to 100% year-on-year. According to the analysis of the company, “The heavy truck industry slowed down due to adverse factors such as the national macro-control.†According to forecast, after the second quarter, the domestic economy will gradually warm up in the new round of investment and whether the heavy truck market can pick up. It also depends on the degree of investment and economic recovery.
In stark contrast to the continuing downturn, production and sales of medium-sized, minivans and passenger vehicles are booming. In the first quarter of this year, 13,889 medium-sized trucks were produced in the province, an increase of 28.1% year-on-year, and 7,643 micro-vehicles were produced, a year-on-year increase of 27.5%. In addition, driven by the steady increase in rigid demand for domestic small and medium-displacement cars, the production of cars in our province has increased by 27.4% year-on-year, and mini-buses have grown by 22.2% year-on-year. With the gradual release of production capacity of Jinan Geely and youth car sedans, and Qingdao GM Wuling has continuously introduced a variety of new products, sedans and mini-buses have become the new growth pole of the province's automobile industry.
At the same time, new energy vehicles in Shandong Province remained strong. In 2011, 4 new energy bus companies across the province produced 1,321 new energy buses, an increase of 190% year-on-year. Although the base of new energy vehicles is small, it represents the future development direction of the automotive industry in our province. According to incomplete statistics, in the first quarter of our province, a total of 20,226 low-speed electric vehicles were produced, an increase of 98.6% year-on-year; 17,15 special-purpose vehicles such as tourist and sightseeing vehicles and police patrol cars were produced, an increase of 43.3%.
