In the first half of 2014, the top ten countries in global automobile production were China, the United States, Japan, Germany, South Korea, India, Mexico, Brazil, Spain and Canada.
In terms of growth, the most obvious increase was in Spain. In the first half of 2014, vehicle production increased by 11.8% year-on-year to 1,292,800 units, and it was promoted to the top ten automobile producing countries in the world. This is mainly related to the Spanish government's introduction of the “efficient car stimulation plan†(PIVE) to stimulate the growth of the car market. According to the plan, car owners who scrapped old cars will receive a subsidy of 2,000 euros when they purchase new cars. The car companies and the Spanish government will share half of the plan.
Thailand fell out of the top ten automobile production countries. In the first half of the year, production fell by 30% to 945,500 units, compared with 1,340,900 units in the same period last year. This is mainly because the effect of Thailand's first car purchase incentive policy has gradually subsided. The country's auto market has been in a downturn since May last year, and the decline has continued for 14 months.
Automobile manufacturers set up factories in Huayun, China's automobile production growth is relatively obvious. In the first half of this year, the output increased by nearly 10% year-on-year, from 10.517 million in the same period of last year to 11.7383 million, still the largest automobile producing country in the world. It is the only country with more than 10 million vehicles, and its output is about twice that of the second-largest US.
In the second and third United States and Japan, the automobile production in the first half of this year was between 5 million and 6 million, and the gap is narrowing. In the first half of this year, US and Japanese auto production increased by 4.7% and 8.7% respectively to 5,943,300 units and 5,606,200 units, a difference of 877,200 units, down from the gap of 1,107,800 units in the same period last year.
Compared with the top three countries, the output of automobiles in other countries is very different, with a gap of two million. Among them, Germany and South Korea ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the first half of this year, the number of cars produced was 3.067 million and 2,342,500, an increase of 6.6% and 2.6%.
Mexico also has a production increase of 1,665,600 vehicles in the first half of this year, an increase of 7.6% year-on-year, making it the seventh largest automobile producer in the world. The increase in production is largely due to strong demand in the Brazilian, Canadian and US markets.
However, while Mexico's production grew steadily, Brazil's production was declining due to sluggish domestic market demand. Its output in the first half of the year was 1,560,600 units, down 16.8% from the same period last year, ranking from seventh to eighth.
In addition, the decline in vehicle production is also in India and Canada, which fell by 6.4% and 1.8% in the first half of this year to 1,191,100 and 1,186,600, respectively, ranking sixth and tenth respectively.
